Hopeful nerds around the world have always seen Google as some kind of White Knight in the corporate world. Mostly because Google gives a lot of their services away for free but also because the founders have always pushed the philosophy of "Don't Be Evil".
Google has been making back door deals with Verizon to try and ensure they get preferential treatment in the coming bandwidth wars. When you get betrayed by the ones you love it's always the hardest.
